Hey guys! You are the best!

I haven’t had any urgent email messages letting me know that I haven’t updated the podcast or the site in a while, so clearly you’re quite the patient bunch (although there have been a few people letting me know that they are eagerly awaiting the release of new podcast episodes; I can't blame them there).

As you already know, the lack of updating is due in part to the fact that I haven’t been able to log in to the back end of the website. The wonderful helpers at the forums haven't been able to help me solve my problem, so I'm going to get in touch with the hard working folks at the hosting company and see if they can help me find a solution.

In either case, I am still able to manually update the site (as I am right now), so I consider myself fortunate and blessed.

I look forward to seeing you at the shows!

Hey gang, Happy New Year!

I know it has been awhile, so allow me to bring you up to speed:

You see, I've been locked out of my site and unable to update it since late December. I won't concern you with too many technical details, but in short I've built this site on a blogging platform (and Content Management System) called Movable Type. When I want to update my site, I login with a password and a user name at the back end. However, every attempt I've made to log in since late December has been met with an error, preventing me from accessing my data.

All conspiracy theories aside, this is my hypothesis as to what happened:

I've had my website hacked a couple of times in the past. At first I wondered how or why anyone would merit from hacking my site specifically (I'm not saying I'm small-time, but hey, we all know I'm indie), but evidently we are in a new age where hacking is automated (at least, according to my friend Adam). In other words, a bot crawls around looking for security leaks in your site, and once it finds them, boom, your site is hacked.

Perhaps this is all in my head and there is a legitimate reason for the errors. What I do know is that I was able to log in one day, and the next, no dice.

Regardless, I made the decision to focus on what is important, namely, my upcoming shows with the band. It would probably bug me to no end if I wasn't able to make people aware of what's coming up, so I decided to rebuild the site. It may not be anything fancy right now, but at least I haven't lost any data, and, it's not like it took me a week to do this. I may not be the best among graphic designers and web developers, but I can hold my own. Good stuff can always come out of "bad stuff", and frankly, I don't believe in "bad stuff" from a long-term perspective.

Also, I don't want to hop the fence on this, but there is a good chance I will be moving out of Calgary later this year. What this means is that the upcoming shows in February, March, April, May, and June may be among the last for interested parties to catch the current lineup of the band. It would be a little sad if I didn't at least make an effort to make you aware of the goings-on.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to seeing you at the shows!

God Bless,

- David Andrew Wiebe
